Turtle River
The Turtle River Falls and Gardens is a 15-acre tropical landscape in Ocho Rios, Jamaica’s vacation town. The Turtle River flows across the property, forming 14 cascading waterfalls. The gardens are home to a diverse range of indigenous and endangered plants. A walk-in aviary houses exotic birds, and a stunning Japanese Koi Pond completes this tropical sanctuary.
Turtle River Park, located in the heart of Ocho Rios, is a relatively new attraction. Until recently, the area (which spans over 3 hectares) was utilised as a bus stop until it was designated for redevelopment by the Urban Development Corporation (UDC).
The UDC determined that the land’s best use would be as a public park, in keeping with St Ann Parish’s designation of “The Garden Parish.” On June 18, 2004, Prime Minister P J Patterson declared Turtle River Park open. Tourists and residents of Ocho Rios visit the park in search of a respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Flower beds, a huge pond with fish and turtles, gazebos, a music pavilion, and a playground are all part of the park.
